The Course for 2010 will be changed to incorporate more off road lands and less roads and abandoned railroad. .
Course Info Locations of check points and aid stations will be identified on the map of the course, each runner will receive further instructions during the pre-run meeting. Plenty of parking is available at each station. Leg 1 - The Ridge– 19 km After an early start in St Paul you head on the Iron Horse Trail until you reach what we call simply "The Ridge". The Ridge consists of steep rolling hills in which even the most experience runner's will find challenging. This leg consist of gravel trail and dirt /grass paths. We moved this leg to the start so that the runners can experience the beauty of "The Ridge" in the daylight. Difficulty rating – 5 out 7 Iron Horse Trail - approx. 55% Dirt and Grass Trail -approx. 44% Other* - approx. - 1% Leg 2 – Doggone Creek – 18 km
New to the course this year, this leg has a variety of challenges. After starting off with a nasty road climb you will make your way across fields to a beautiful valley which is the home to Doggone Creek. After crossing the creek (small bridge) you will make your way to the next station at the base of Moose Mountain. This leg uses roads, open fields, bush trails and rough slews, so be ready to expect anything. Difficulty rating – 2 out 7 Dirt and Grass Trail -approx. 40% Gravel Roads -approx. 50% Other* - approx. - 10% Leg 3 – Moose Mountain – 23 km Even though it is not actually classified as a mountain but a very large hill, but what a hill it is! We move this leg into the 100km portion so that all the soloist and teams could experience the mystic Moose Mountain. Difficult at times it also has the best view.This leg which has a little bit of everything, atv trails, dirt roads and highway ends in the town of Elk Point and is the turn around point for the 100 km events.
Difficulty rating – 6 out 7 Dirt and Grass Trail -approx. 45% Iron Horse Trail - approx. 30% Gravel Roads -approx. 20% Other* - approx. - 5% Leg 4 – Riverveiw – 32 km (for 100 mile soloist and 100 mile relay teams only) From friendly Elk Point you make your way to the beautiful town of Riverview using the the shores of the North Saskatchewan River. This leg has everything a runner wants, shoreline, a beautiful ridge, couple of creek crossings, park trails, open fields and distance. This leg will challenge you! Difficulty rating – 7 out 7 Dirt and Grass Trail -approx. 75% Gravel Roads -approx. 20% Other* - approx. - 5% Leg 5 – Lindbergh Express – 28 km (for 100 mile soloist and 100 mile relay teams only)
This leg you make your way back to Elk Point from the The Lindbergh Salt Plant. It will have more sand then last year, a road that seams to climb forever, friendly run through the town of Lindbergh, and scenic jog back to Elk Point on the Iron Horse Trail. Difficulty rating – 4 out 7 Dirt and Grass Trail -approx.15% Iron Horse Trail - approx. 30% Gravel Roads -approx. 50% Other* - approx. - 5% Leg 6 – Stoney lake – 17 Km Before you make your way to the aid station by Stoney Lake you will have some small challenges. It's the easiest leg with a few steep hills to keep you honested. Difficulty rating – 1 out 7 Dirt and Grass Trail -approx.20% Iron Horse Trail - approx. 20% Gravel Roads -approx. 55% Other* - approx. - 5% Leg 7 – The Home Run– 23 Km
It’s the home stretch; you make your way back to St Paul, using roads, the other ridge, lakeshore and boardwalk. A hero's welcome will be waiting for everyone at the finish line. Difficulty rating – 3 out 7
